Organising Cyclesolihull

In March 2012 Cyclesolihull became an independent organisation to promote and encourage cycling within Solihull.

The main activities of Cyclesolihull are the regular free community cycle rides which are open to everyone - simply turn up with your bike and ride.

Cyclesolihull membership enables you to get involved in the organisation and development of Cyclesolihull. Membership is free and automatic for anyone who is over 16, comes on 5 rides in a calendar year and provides us with contact details. Membership lasts until the end of the following calendar year. So if you are new to Cyclesolihull in 2012 you will be told when you become eligible for membership and your membership will last until the end of 2013.

The day to day organisation of Cyclesolihull is undertaken by a committee drawn from Cyclesolihull members. Present committee members will serve until the next AGM to be held early in 2013.

Other ways of supporting Cyclesolihull include leading and backmarking rides, assisting with Taster and Family rides and telling other people about the rides.

Cyclesolihull rides go ahead unless there is persistant heavy rain (not just showers), very strong winds, snow or ice. Rides are rarely cancelled (5 in 2010 due to snow and ice) but if we feel this is necessary because forecast bad weather we will try and put information about this on the website before the start of the ride.

Cyclesolihull's rides:

Sunday Cycle Rides take place most Sundays at 2 pm during the spring and summer. They are between 5 and 20 miles long, depending on which of the Cyclesolihull routes is being cycled.

Some of these rides are Taster Rides, monthly rides of about 5 miles long. They start at 2 pm and there is a refreshment stop. These rides are an ideal introduction to Cyclesolihull rides for new cyclists and families with children. They are just like the other rides but much shorter!

Evening Explorer rides are on alternate Wednesdays from mid-May to early August. They start at 7 pm from various locations and are about 10 miles long, following the shorter 'S' routes. There is a pub refreshment stop of about 30 minutes and the ride will finish before 9 pm.

Saturday Stretcher rides are the longest Cyclesolihull rides at between 25 and 35 miles. There is no fixed route and they may use sections of busier roads. They are not suitable for children.
