Types of Ride

All Cyclesolihull rides have the simple aim of getting more people cycling in Solihull by providing a friendly introduction to cycling with other people. On all the rides you won't have to worry about getting lost and there is informal help if something goes wrong. If you are feeling sociable, all the rides have a refreshment stop of about 30 minutes which provides and opportunity to chat.

The Sunday Cycle Rides are the heart of Cyclesolihull. They take place most Sundays during the spring and summer (except where there is a 5th Sunday in the month), starting at 2 pm from different places around the borough. In the Winter (November to March) there are at least two rides each month starting at the earlier time of 1.30 pm. They are between 10 and 20 miles long.

One Sunday ride a month is a Taster Ride, a shorter ride of about 5 miles long. They also start at 2 pm and there is a refreshment stop. These rides are an ideal introduction to Cyclesolihull rides for new cyclists and families with children. They are just like the other rides but much shorter!

All Taster Rides and selected other shorter rides are designated Family Rides. These are rides we consider especially suitable for adults bringing children but younger riders used to cycling the stated ride distance are welcome on all the Sunday rides In the summer months there are two Family Rides each month.

Evening Explorer rides are on alternate Wednesdays and Thursdays from mid-May to early August. They start at 7 pm from various locations and most are about 10 miles long, following the shorter 'S' routes. There is a pub refreshment stop of about 30 minutes and the rides finish before 9 pm.

Saturday Stretcher rides are the longest Cyclesolihull rides at between 20 and 35 miles. There have variable routes and they may use sections of busier roads. They are not suitable for children.

Visit our ride-specific pages for more details about each type of ride.

Cyclesolihull rides go ahead unless there is persistant heavy rain (not just showers), very strong winds, snow or ice. Rides are rarely cancelled (5 in 2010 due to snow and ice) but if we feel this is necessary because forecast bad weather we will try and put information about this on the website before the start of the ride.
