Saturday Stretcher Rides

Saturday Stretcher Rides are the longest of the regular Cyclesolihull rides. The rides are normally between 25 and 35 miles long and there is no fixed route. The leader will decide the route on the day and may vary it depending on the wishes of the riders and the weather conditions. Although most of the ride will be on the quiet roads there may be some short sections on busier roads. The rides take place at 9.30 am on two Saturdays each month:

  • the Saturday immediately before the second Sunday of each month. This SS25 ride is up to 25 miles long.
  • the Saturday immediately before the fourth Sunday of each month. This SS35 ride is up to 35 miles long.

The rides start from one of eight different places in the borough (more information on start points).

Saturday Stretcher Rides are a good way of going a little further and faster with Cyclesolihull.

SS25 rides start at 9.30 am and finish at about 12.45 pm. With a 30 minute refreshment stop the overall average cycling speed is about 10 mph.

SS35 rides start at 9.30 am and finish at about 1.15 pm. So with a 30 minute refreshment stop the overall average cycling speed is about 12 mph.

Please bear in mind both the distance and cycling speed when deciding if a Saturday Stretcher ride is suitable for you.

For comparison, the overall average cycling speed on the Sunday rides is about 8 mph.

If you are new to cycling we advise you to try the shorter Sunday Cycle Rides and Evening Explorer rides first.

Saturday Stretcher Rides are not suitable for small children but older teenagers who are used to cycling longer distances on roads at the above speeds are very welcome.

Still too short or too slow?

If you want to go further and faster you might like to join a local cycling club which have a range of longer rides.

Cyclesolihull rides go ahead unless there is persistant heavy rain (not just showers), very strong winds, snow or ice. Rides are rarely cancelled (5 in 2010 due to snow and ice) but if we feel this is necessary because forecast bad weather we will try and put information about this on the website before the start of the ride.

Try Cyclesolihull's other rides:

Sunday Cycle Rides take place most Sundays at 2 pm during the spring and summer. They are between 5 and 20 miles long, depending on which of the Cyclesolihull routes is being cycled.

Some of these rides are Taster Rides, monthly rides of about 5 miles long. They start at 2 pm and there is a refreshment stop. These rides are an ideal introduction to Cyclesolihull rides for new cyclists and families with children. They are just like the other rides but much shorter!

Evening Explorer rides are on alternate Wednesdays from mid-May to early August. They start at 7 pm from various locations and are about 10 miles long, following the shorter 'S' routes. There is a pub refreshment stop of about 30 minutes and the ride will finish before 9 pm.
